In the Indian state of West Bengal, a Muslim police officer foiled an armed attack on a classroom full of children.
According to media reports, a gunman suddenly entered a private school in the Malda district, holding a gun in one hand and a petrol bomb in the other, where 80 children were sitting in the classroom. The armed attacker kept the children hostage for some time and even threatened to blow up the room with the petrol bomb.
The police arrived on the scene and attempted to negotiate with the armed man to resolve the situation peacefully, but he refused. During this time, a brave Muslim police officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Azharuddin, was able to successfully apprehend the suspect.
Azharuddin approached the suspect and suddenly lunged forward, grabbing both his hands, while other officers rushed in to help. The children were immediately evacuated from the classroom to a safe place.
The video of this incident went viral on social media, with many people expressing gratitude and admiration for the Muslim police officer’s bravery.
According to the police, the suspect is mentally ill and has been previously arrested for making threatening images with weapons. Two knives were also found on him at the time of his arrest.
