Most people have the habit of taking a nap, i.e., sleeping, after lunch, and until now, it has been considered the best for mental health. However, a recent study has warned those who sleep in the afternoon.
A recent study has revealed that taking a nap for 30 minutes or more daily increases the risk of irregular heartbeats. The study analyzed the data of more than 20,000 healthy individuals who were surveyed every two years, with their nap duration during the afternoon considered, and they were divided into three groups.
One group consisted of those who did not sleep in the afternoon, the second group consisted of those who slept for less than 30 minutes, while the third group consisted of those who slept for 30 minutes or more. The results of the study showed that the risk of irregular heartbeats in those who slept for 30 minutes or more increased twofold, but this risk decreased for those who took a nap for only a few minutes in the afternoon.
Experts suggest that the best time for an afternoon nap is between 15 and 30 minutes, and those who nap for less than 30 minutes have a reduced risk of irregular heartbeats by up to 56 percent.
