Imran Khan has 121 cases against him, decision preserved

The Lahore High Court has preserved the decision on the request to stop proceedings against former Prime Minister Imran Khan in 121 cases.

Under the leadership of Justice Ali Baqir Najfi, a five-member bench of the Lahore High Court heard Imran Khan’s request, and his lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar argued that cases have been filed against a 71-year-old person and cases are being pursued on political grounds.

The government lawyer objected that Imran Khan has approached the Supreme Court on similar matters. Can this request be heard in such a situation? The government lawyer stated that there are precedents where the accused have been arrested from within the courts. The relief Imran Khan is getting from the courts has never happened in history. Can it be said that if a particular case persists for a certain period, no arrest can be made?

The learned bench should not have discussed this matter in court. Here, the accused are presented for bail from morning till evening. Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, said that fundamental rights should be protected. Arrests and repeated filing of cases are happening hastily. No obstruction should be placed in reaching someone’s justice.

He requested that if permission is granted for a video link presentation, perhaps this series could be reduced. The bench inquired whether the court can give such an order that video link presentations are made in every case. In the past, political leaders have made similar presentations, and politicians appeared in the same courts one after the other. The court preserved the decision on the completion of the lawyers’ arguments.
