India: Muslim leader Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf buried after being killed by Hindu extremists Lucknow: Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf Ahmed, two brothers who were killed by Hindu extremists in police custody in India, were buried yesterday. Atiq Ahmed’s two underage sons participated in the funeral and burial, but his widow Shai… did not attend.
According to details, the funeral and burial of Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were held after Isha prayers last night. They were shot dead by three suspects and buried in the Kasari Masari Cemetery in the old city area of Prayagraj.
Remember, their son Asad Ahmed was also buried here last week. This is the cemetery where all their ancestors are buried. Atiq was not allowed to participate in his son’s last rites, and a few hours later, the two brothers were also killed in police custody.
According to Indian media, heavy police were present during the burial, and those who came were allowed to enter the cemetery after checking their identity cards. Atiq Ahmed’s two underage sons, Ajhan and Aban, also participated in his funeral and burial and are also named as accused along with their father in the Amish Pal murder case. Since they are both minors, they have been kept in state custody instead of jail.
According to media reports, Atiq Ahmed’s widow, Shai… was not present at the funeral. The police refused to release her for the funeral, citing security reasons. The family has alleged that the police killed Atiq and Ashraf, and they have demanded an impartial investigation into the incident. The incident has caused outrage and condemnation from various human rights organizations and activists in India and around the world.
