Anxious Journalist Commits Suicide In Newsroom Due To Non-Receipt Of Salary

In the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, a senior journalist allegedly committed suicide in a newsroom after not receiving his salary.

T Kumar, a 56-year-old photojournalist with the Indian news agency United News of India (UNI), was found dead in his office on Monday. He was the bureau chief for the UNI in Tamil Nadu.

The death of journalist T Kumar has raised questions about non-payment of salaries and financial problems facing journalists.

UNI employees have alleged that the agency has not paid their salaries for the last 60 months due to which Kumar was facing severe financial problems. Many employees have been forced to approach the Labor Court in this situation. ۔

However, UNI Editor-in-Chief Ajay Kumar Cole termed it as a tragic incident and said that the police should properly investigate the matter.

He said that no suicide note was found in which the late journalist had written that he was taking extreme measures due to financial pressure or non-payment of salary. Some people are spreading false information in this regard.

Vishwa Vishwanath, a senior journalist from India, was the first to post about Kumar’s death on Twitter on Monday, after which several other journalists followed him and expressed shock and grief over the incident.

Survivors of journalist T Kumar include a wife, a son and a daughter.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has offered condolences to Kumar’s family and announced a compensation of Rs 300,000 for the family.
