National Assembly Passes Bill Banning Corporal Punishment Of Children

A bill to clarify the prohibition of corporal punishment of children in Islamabad has been passed in the National Assembly.

According to details, a meeting of the National Assembly was held under the chairmanship of Qasim Suri in which PML-N member Mehnaz Akbar Aziz introduced Bill 2020 prohibiting corporal punishment on children. However, the National Assembly passed the bill prohibiting corporal punishment and interest on children. ۔

A majority of members voted in favor of the bill.

On the occasion, Federal Minister for Human Rights Shirin Mazari said that we have no objection to the bill, we want to make an amendment in the bill, the benefit of this amendment will be that the complaint can be filed in court.

Mazari further said that the first bill had said that the complaint could be lodged in a committee set up by the government. The bill has been amended and the complaint could be lodged directly in the court.

Following the passage of the bill, the National Assembly session was adjourned till 11 a.m. on Friday, February 26.
