Islamabad: Former Chairman of the Senate, Raza Rabbani, criticized the spokesperson of the US State Department, Viden Patel, and advised him to refrain from commenting on Pakistan’s internal affairs.
The leader of the Pakistan People’s Party, Raza Rabbani, stated in a statement that the spokesperson of the US State Department has developed a habit of daily commenting on Pakistan’s political situation. It is necessary to remind them that Pakistan is a sovereign state and not a slave state of America.
Raza Rabbani stated that the criticisms of the US State Department’s spokesperson are condemned in every way. Pakistan is an independent and sovereign country. Pakistan can deal with its internal instability without the guidance of any other state. Internal instability is being addressed within the framework of the constitution and the rule of law.
The former Chairman of the Senate stated that the spokesperson of the US State Department is interfering in Pakistan’s internal affairs. Their statements also interfere in the internal affairs of other countries in the world. The Western world needs to understand that Pakistan will not accept neo-colonialism. Pakistan expects such countries to refrain from making such statements in the future.
It should be noted that after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the spokesperson of the US State Department had expressed his reaction. He has commented on Pakistan’s internal affairs several times in his conversations.
In a press briefing on May 12, Viden Patel had said that they are concerned about the situation in Pakistan. They have no preference for any political group in Pakistan. A prosperous and secure Pakistan is in the interest of the United States.
The spokesperson said that they want to see democratic values, respect for principles, and adherence to the law. Discussions are ongoing on several issues with Pakistan. A strong democratic Pakistan is in the interest of the United States. The issue of human rights and media freedom has been raised by Pakistani counterparts.
“We want to strengthen economic relations with Pakistan. We want to enhance trade and investment opportunities with the private sector. There is important cooperation on security matters with Pakistan. We are engaged with Pakistan in climate change, agriculture, and energy sectors.”
He said that a free media contributes to a better democratic society. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken believes in media freedom.
