On giving Eid greetings to Muslims, singer Shaan Mukherjee became the target of Hindu extremists in Mumbai. Shaan had wished his Muslim fans on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr by using a screenshot from his music video where he is seen wearing a topi (cap) and praying.
He had posted the screenshot on Instagram with a caption that read, “Eid Mubarak to you all and your families from me.”
While the post was liked by many, it also received heavy criticism from some Hindu extremists who even threatened the singer with serious consequences.
After being trolled extensively, Shaan went live on Instagram to express his reaction. He first clarified the context of the screenshot where he was seen wearing the topi and praying and then responded to the critics.
Addressing the Hindu extremists, he said, “If we cannot tolerate even a little bit, how will we progress? I want people to change such a mindset. Even being a Hindu, I know how to respect other religions.”
He also mentioned that initially he did not take the criticism of his Eid greetings post seriously, but as it continued to escalate, he had to respond.
