Statistics Bureau Contacts MQM-P for Unaccounted Areas and Complaints in Population Census

After severe reservations regarding digital population census, the Statistics Bureau has contacted MQM and requested records of areas not counted and details of complaints. According to ARY News, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) had threatened to resign from the government and demanded the resignation of MNAs due to the government’s failure to conduct a complete population census, especially in the urban areas of Karachi and Hyderabad. The federal government had contacted MQM-P through MQM and a meeting with the party delegation is expected today.

After strong protests against MQM’s digital population census reservations, the Statistics Bureau has contacted Dr. Farooq Sattar, senior deputy commissioner of Muttahida, to request records of areas not counted and complaints regarding the census. In a letter from MQM leader to the Statistics Bureau, it was said that complaints and areas not counted should be identified so that they could be addressed. The team will visit the identified areas and buildings, and the population census will include uncounted houses, buildings, and areas by April 30th.

The responsible agency for the population census says that the process should have been completed by April 4th, but due to various reasons, it has been extended four times. The last extension in the history of the population census was due to Eid.
