Google is introducing an AI-powered conversational chatbot interface to help users customize and fine-tune their Google Discover content feeds.

Google is enhancing its Google app with an AI chatbot feature that allows users to customize their Discover feed using natural language prompts. Rolling out in the coming days, this feature enables mobile users to describe content preferences conversationally, after which the AI automatically adjusts the feed and remembers these settings for future browsing sessions.
According to details first reported by The Verge on August 20, 2026, Google is shifting away from traditional toggle switches toward interactive conversational AI. Users will soon be able to access a dedicated customization prompt directly from the three-dot menu located on any card within their Discover feed.
Tapping the new option launches a chatbot-style conversational interface. Users can type or speak what topics, themes, or publication styles they wish to see more or less of. The AI system then analyzes the input, confirms its understanding by outlining the prioritized content categories, and gives users an opportunity to provide further refinement if the initial setup misses the mark.
This integration marks a significant pivot in content curation technology. By allowing natural language instructions that are stored for subsequent visits, Google aims to reduce passive feed algorithms in favor of direct user intent.
For everyday users, this means less reliance on manual buttons like hiding stories individually. Instead, explicit instructions focusing on specific interests will permanently train the Discover feed persistent memory until adjusted again.
You can access the feature by tapping the three-dot menu on any story card within your Discover feed inside the Google app. Once selected, a conversational chatbot interface will open for you to describe your preferences.
Yes, Google's AI chatbot automatically remembers your preference settings for subsequent app browsing sessions. You can also re-enter the chat at any time to provide extra context or adjust your choices.
The feature is scheduled to roll out to the Google app in the coming days following its official reveal. Availability will expand across mobile devices gradually.
