About the GuruAlpha Islamic Section
This section brings together the tools and knowledge Muslims use every day — the Islamic (Hijri) calendar with today's date, prayer times for Pakistani and Gulf cities, Qibla direction, a Zakat calculator with live gold and silver nisab, the 99 Names of Allah, daily duas, and guides to Ramadan, Hajj, Umrah and the pillars of Islam. Everything is available in English and Urdu.
The Hijri calendar is a lunar calendar of 12 months totalling about 354 days, so Islamic dates move roughly 11 days earlier every Gregorian year. Our dates are computed from the Umm al-Qura calendar — the official calendar of Saudi Arabia — and may differ by a day from local moon-sighting announcements. Always confirm important dates like Ramadan and Eid with your local mosque or the official moon-sighting committee.
Prayer times are calculated for your city's coordinates using the standard Umm al-Qura method and updated daily from the Aladhan API, so Fajr to Isha are always current. The Zakat calculator converts your gold, silver, cash and investments at today's rates and tells you whether your wealth has reached the nisab threshold.
The knowledge pages — the Five Pillars, the Seerah, the stories of the prophets, Islamic finance and the afterlife — are written to be accessible to beginners while remaining accurate to the classical sources. They are educational content; for religious rulings (fatwa), please consult a qualified scholar.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is today's Islamic date?+
Today is 7 Rabi al-Awwal 1448 AH (Thursday, 20 August 2026). The Hijri date shown follows the Umm al-Qura calendar and may differ by a day from local moon-sighting.
Why do Islamic dates move earlier each year?+
The Islamic calendar is lunar — a year is about 354 days, roughly 11 days shorter than the solar year. So Islamic dates shift about 11 days earlier every Gregorian year, and Ramadan, Eid and Hajj cycle through all seasons over about 33 years.
How is the Zakat nisab calculated?+
The nisab is the minimum wealth that makes Zakat obligatory — 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. We value both at today's market prices in PKR and use the silver nisab as the yardstick, which is the common practice in the Hanafi school. Zakat is 2.5% of qualifying wealth held for one lunar year.
Is the content on this page a religious ruling?+
No. The guides and calculators are educational tools based on classical sources. For personal religious rulings, especially on matters of worship and finance, consult a qualified Islamic scholar.
