Amanullah Khan

Amanullah Khan (1892–1960) was the King of Afghanistan from 1919 to 1929 who led the country to full independence from British influence. He launched the Third Anglo-Afghan War in 1919 and successfully negotiated Afghan sovereignty. Amanullah introduced sweeping modernization reforms including a new constitution, women's rights, education, and infrastructure development. His progressive reforms, particularly regarding women's rights, faced strong resistance from conservative tribal leaders and religious clergy. A rebellion forced him to abdicate in 1929, and he lived in exile until his death. Despite his brief reign, Amanullah is remembered as a pioneer of Afghan modernization and his reforms inspired future generations.
