Ashraf Ghani

Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, born on May 19, 1949, in Logar Province, Afghanistan, served as the President of Afghanistan from 2014 to 2021. Before entering politics, he was a distinguished academic and World Bank official. Ghani studied at Columbia University and Johns Hopkins University, earning a PhD in anthropology. He served as Finance Minister under President Karzai and was known for his technocratic approach to governance. His presidency focused on anti-corruption reforms, economic development, and peace negotiations with the Taliban. His government collapsed in August 2021 when the Taliban took control of Kabul, and Ghani fled the country. He has been living in exile since then. His presidency remains controversial, with supporters crediting his reform agenda and critics blaming him for the fall of the republic.
