Biography

Dr. Umar Saif is a Pakistani computer scientist, entrepreneur and academic who has shaped the country's technology ecosystem. Born in Lahore, he completed his PhD in computer science at the University of Cambridge before returning to Pakistan to work at the intersection of research, education and industry.

Career

Dr. Saif founded the Information Technology University (ITU) in Lahore and served as its founding Vice-Chancellor, building it into one of Pakistan's leading technology institutions. His research on mobile computing and peer-to-peer systems was recognised with the MIT Technology Review's TR35 award for the world's top young innovators. He has also founded companies, served as Chairman of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), and held senior government roles focused on digitising public services in Pakistan.

Influence

Dr. Umar Saif is widely regarded as one of the architects of Pakistan's modern technology sector, and his work on digital governance, startup incubation and tech education has had a lasting impact on the country. He continues to advise governments, invest in startups and advocate for technology-led development in Pakistan.
