Ibn Sina (Avicenna)

Ibn Sina (980–1037 CE), known in the West as Avicenna, was a Persian polymath who was born in Afshana, near Bukhara (in present-day Uzbekistan), but is claimed by Afghanistan due to his extensive time in Herat and Balkh. He is widely regarded as one of the most significant physicians, philosophers, and scholars of the Islamic Golden Age. His 'Canon of Medicine' (Al-Qanun fi al-Tibb) was the standard medical textbook in Europe and the Islamic world for over 500 years. He also made significant contributions to astronomy, chemistry, geology, psychology, theology, and logic. The 'Avicenna monument' stands in Kabul as a tribute to his legacy. He is credited with pioneering the scientific method in medicine.
