Inzamam-ul-Haq

Inzamam-ul-Haq is one of the greatest batsmen Pakistan has produced and one of the most naturally gifted strokemakers of his era. Born on 3 March 1970 in Multan, he made his international debut in 1991 and quickly became a fixture of the national side.

Career

Inzamam announced himself on the world stage with a blistering 60 off 37 balls in the 1992 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand — a knock that earned Pakistan a place in the final, which they won. He went on to score 8,830 Test runs and 11,739 ODI runs, both Pakistani records at the time of his retirement, and hit 25 Test centuries. His elegant, wristy batting and his calm presence in the middle order made him the backbone of Pakistan's batting for 15 years.

He captained Pakistan between 2003 and 2007, leading the team to the 2004 Test series win in India and the 2007 World Cup. He retired from international cricket in 2007 and later returned to the game as a coach and chief selector, serving as Pakistan's chief selector in several stints.

Legacy

Inzamam is remembered as one of the finest batsmen of his generation, and his weight, wit and gentle personality made him a beloved figure. As chief selector he helped rebuild the team in the late 2010s, and he remains an influential voice in Pakistani cricket.
