Jahangir Khan

Jahangir Khan is widely regarded as the greatest squash player in history, with a record that is considered among the most dominant in all of sport. Born on 10 December 1963 in Karachi into the legendary Khan squash dynasty, he took up the sport as a child and turned professional as a teenager.

Career

Between 1981 and 1986, Jahangir won an astonishing 555 consecutive matches — the longest winning streak in the history of professional sport. He won the British Open (then the sport's premier title) a record 10 times and the World Open 6 times, and he was world No. 1 for over five years. His relentless fitness, court coverage and mental strength revolutionised the sport.

He retired in 1993 but returned briefly, and he later became a coach and administrator, including a term as President of the World Squash Federation — the first Asian to hold the post.

Legacy

Jahangir Khan's 555-match streak is a sporting record unlikely ever to be broken, and he is celebrated not only in Pakistan but across the sporting world as one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century.
