Jansher Khan

Jansher Khan is a Pakistani squash legend who dominated the sport in the 1990s, succeeding his cousin Jahangir Khan as the world's best player. Born on 15 June 1969 in Peshawar, he won his first World Open title in 1987 at age 18.

Career

Jansher won a record-equalling 8 World Open titles and 8 British Open titles, and held the world No. 1 ranking for more than six years. His rivalry with Jahangir Khan in the late 1980s produced some of the greatest matches in squash history, and after Jahangir's decline Jansher reigned supreme through the mid-1990s. His all-court game, touch and tireless retrieving made him nearly unbeatable at his peak.

He retired in 2001, having won 99 professional titles, and later battled a serious heart condition, recovering after surgery in 2014.

Legacy

Jansher Khan is regarded, alongside Jahangir, as one of the two greatest players in the history of squash, and the Khan dynasty's dominance — spanning four decades — remains the most remarkable family achievement in any sport.
