Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir (born 19 January 1949) is a Bangladeshi politician who has served as the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) since 2016. He has been one of the most prominent faces of the opposition during the Awami League government. Born in Thakurgaon district, Alamgir studied at the University of Dhaka and became involved in student politics. He has been a member of parliament multiple times and has held various positions in the BNP. He is known for his eloquent speeches and parliamentary skills. As BNP Secretary General, Alamgir has been the party's primary spokesperson and has led the opposition's parliamentary strategy. He has been vocal about democratic governance, human rights, and the rule of law. He was arrested multiple times during political crises and has faced various legal challenges. After the fall of the Hasina government in August 2024, Alamgir played a key role in the political transition and has been involved in negotiations for the interim government.
