MS Dhoni

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (born 7 July 1981) is a former Indian cricketer and one of the most successful captains in the history of cricket. Known as "Captain Cool" for his calm and composed demeanor under pressure, Dhoni led India to victory in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup, the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy — making India the only team to win all three ICC limited-overs trophies. Born in Ranchi, Jharkhand (then Bihar), Dhoni came from a humble background. He worked as a ticket collector at Kharagpur railway station before pursuing cricket full-time. He was noticed by former Indian captain Kapil Dev during a local tournament and was selected for the Bihar cricket team. His explosive batting and lightning-quick wicketkeeping earned him a place in the Indian cricket team in 2004. Dhoni became captain of the Indian cricket team in 2007 and immediately transformed the side's fortunes. His first major achievement was leading India to victory in the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in South Africa. His most iconic moment came in the 2011 World Cup final when he hit a massive six off Nuwan Kulasekara to seal India's victory against Sri Lanka at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium — a moment that united a billion people. As a batsman, Dhoni was known for his powerful finishing, especially in run chases. His ability to stay calm and deliver in high-pressure situations made him one of the best finishers in ODI cricket history. He held the record for the most successful run chases and finished matches as captain. He retired from international cricket in August 2020, posting a video message on India's Independence Day. He continued to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings until 2023, winning the IPL title five times. Dhoni remains one of the most beloved and respected figures in Indian sport.
