Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Rajiv Gandhi (born 19 June 1970) is an Indian politician and a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) party. He currently serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha (lower house of the Indian Parliament) and represents the Rae Bareli constituency in Uttar Pradesh. He is the scion of the Nehru-Gandhi political dynasty that has produced three Prime Ministers of India. Born in New Delhi, Rahul is the son of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, who served as Congress President for over 20 years. He was educated at Harvard University and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he earned an M.Phil in development studies. After Cambridge, Rahul worked at the Monitor Group, a management consulting firm in London, before returning to India to enter politics. Rahul Gandhi entered politics in 2004, winning his first Lok Sabha election from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh — a constituency held by his family for decades. He was appointed General Secretary of the AICC in 2007 and later became Vice President of the Congress party in 2013. In 2017, he was elected President of the Indian National Congress, a position he held until 2019 when he resigned after the party's poor performance in the general elections. Despite criticism and political setbacks, Rahul Gandhi has emerged as a more focused and assertive opposition leader in recent years. His cross-country Bharat Jodo Yatra (Unite India March) in 2022-2023, a 4,000-km foot march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, was widely credited with revitalizing the Congress party and Rahul's own political image. The march covered 12 states and drew massive public support. In the 2024 elections, Rahul led the Congress to its best performance in a decade, with the party winning 99 seats and emerging as the largest opposition party. His appointment as Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha marked a significant milestone in his political career.
