Biography
Sajith Premadasa, born on January 10, 1967, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, is a Sri Lankan politician and the current Leader of the Opposition. He is the son of former President Ranasinghe Premadasa, who was assassinated by the LTTE in 1993. Sajith entered politics after his father's death and has been a member of parliament since 2000. He contested the 2019 presidential election as the candidate of the United National Party and allied parties, finishing second. He currently leads the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) party, which he founded in 2020 after breaking away from the UNP. Premadasa is known for his populist approach and grassroots-level political engagement. He served as Minister of Housing, Construction, and Cultural Affairs from 2015 to 2019.
