Kumar Sangakkara

Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara, born on October 27, 1977, in Matale, Sri Lanka, is widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time. He was a left-handed batsman and wicketkeeper who played 134 Test matches and 404 ODIs for Sri Lanka, scoring over 14,000 Test runs and 14,000 ODI runs. Sangakkara captained Sri Lanka in all three formats and led the team to the 2011 Cricket World Cup final. He holds the record for the most consecutive centuries in Test cricket (4) and is the second-highest run scorer in Test history. After retirement, he became the President of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in 2023 — the first Asian to hold this prestigious position. He is also a respected cricket commentator and administrator. Sangakkara studied law at the University of Colombo and is known for his articulate and eloquent speeches, including his famous Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture in 2011.
