Sattar Khan

Sattar Khan (1866-1914), titled 'Sardar-e Melli' (National Commander), was one of the most important leaders of the Iranian Constitutional Revolution. Born in the Azerbaijan province of Iran, Sattar Khan led the constitutionalist forces in Tabriz against the autocratic rule of Mohammad Ali Shah. His resistance in the besieged city of Tabriz became legendary, as he and his forces held out against overwhelming odds for months. Sattar Khan's courage, determination, and selfless leadership made him one of the most revered figures in Iranian history. The Constitutional Revolution was a pivotal moment in Iranian history, establishing parliamentary democracy and limiting royal power. Sattar Khan's sacrifice and bravery are celebrated annually in Iran, and numerous streets, buildings, and institutions are named after him.
