Sherry Rehman

Sherry Rehman is a Pakistani politician, journalist and diplomat who serves as the Federal Minister for Climate Change and a senior leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party. Born on 23 December 1960 in Karachi, she built a distinguished career in journalism before entering politics.

Career

Rehman was the editor of the Herald and later the editor-in-chief of the News International, one of Pakistan's largest English-language newspapers, before joining the PPP in 2007. She was elected to the National Assembly in 2008 and served as Federal Minister for Information under the PPP government, famously resigning in 2010 to protest proposed changes to blasphemy laws. She also served as Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States from 2011 to 2013.

As a senator and later as Climate Change Minister (from 2022), she has become the country's leading voice on climate policy, steering the global campaign for climate justice for developing countries after the devastating 2022 floods and championing Pakistan's "Loss and Damage" diplomacy at COP summits.

Sherry Rehman is regarded as one of Pakistan's most respected public intellectuals in politics, known for her principled stands, her bridge-building between media and government, and her global leadership on climate issues.
