Siraj-ud-Daulah

Siraj-ud-Daulah (1733 – July 2, 1757), also known as Mirza Mohammad Siraj-ud-Daulah, was the last independent Nawab of Bengal. Born in Murshidabad, he ascended to the throne at a young age and ruled Bengal during a period of increasing European colonial influence. His reign is most remembered for the Battle of Plassey in 1757, where he was defeated by the British East India Company led by Robert Clive through the treachery of Mir Jafar. The Battle of Plassey marked the beginning of British colonial rule in India. Siraj-ud-Daulah was known for his efforts to maintain Bengal's independence against growing European interference. He was killed after the battle and his death marked the end of autonomous Muslim rule in Bengal.
