Tabassum Fatima Hashmi (born 4 November 1971), known professionally as Tabu, is an Indian actress who works in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and other language films. She is considered one of the finest actresses in Indian cinema, known for her ability to portray complex, intense, and morally ambiguous characters with extraordinary depth. Born in Hyderabad, Tabu grew up in a culturally rich environment. She made her debut as a lead actress in "Vijaypath" (1994) and quickly established herself as a serious performer. She won the National Film Award for Best Actress for "Maachis" (1996) and went on to star in critically acclaimed films like "Maachis" (1996), "Virasat" (1997), "Astitva" (2000), and "Chandni Bar" (2001).
