Younis Khan

Younis Khan is Pakistan's greatest Test batsman and the only Pakistani to score more than 10,000 Test runs. Born on 29 November 1977 in Mardan, he rose from a small-town background to become the country's most dependable and prolific run-scorer in the longest format.

Career

Younis made his Test debut in 2000 and went on to score 10,099 Test runs at an average of 52 with 34 centuries — the most by any Pakistani and among the highest totals in world cricket. He is one of only four batsmen in history to score Test centuries against all ten Test-playing nations. He was the backbone of Pakistan's batting for over a decade, at his best in the toughest conditions, including match-winning hundreds in the UAE, England and the West Indies.

He captained Pakistan to victory in the 2009 T20 World Cup in England and later led the Test side, including a famous series win in Sri Lanka in 2015. He retired in 2017 after a farewell series against the West Indies, in which he scored a century in his final innings.

Legacy

Younis Khan is regarded as one of the finest batsmen of the post-2000 era and a model of perseverance. Since retiring, he has worked as a batting coach, including a stint with the Pakistan national team and franchises, passing on his vast knowledge of the game.
